brought the mesh to zbrush, made a qrmesher retopo, that came out quite nice, and sculpted further. then i decimated the mesh to export back to blender for rendering… i abandoned the marble look for now, as the sss shader “eats” too much forms. i could carve deeper, but the shader is not realtime, so it would be guessing, carving, rendering, guessing, carving, rendering… not what i want do right now…
